A pool of contractors of Treviso to give a nursery for babies quake

On 6^th April 2009 at 3:32 the territory of the province of L'Aquila was hit by an earthquake of great magnitude and by successive shocks of high intensity. Also the territory of Poggio Picenze (a municipality part of a district of 5 cities in the province of L’Aquila) was affected by those phenomena that have damaged the building used as a primary school, nursery and kindergarten by making it unusable. For this reason a group of companies in the province of Treviso decided to donate a public work. The initiative came after the event and garnered approvals increasing day by day by recording the accession of over 50 companies that have shared the project providing free materials from their industry.

It's called "THE VELOCCA" the new kindergarten built with eco-friendly materials that a consortium of companies of Treviso has built and donated to the City of Poggio Picenze. In local dialect “velocca” means “broody hen”, to symbolize the idea of protection that the employers of Treviso want to ensure not only to the children of the municipality but also for those of the district. The nursery can accommodate 40 children aged from 3 months to 3 years: result of a careful fusion of green building, environmental sustainability, energy conservation, seismic criteria. It is a concentrate of new technologies and new sensibilities of design and construction. The entire structure was made of plywood panels with high load-bearing insulation. It is a Class A building, which is almost completely independent in terms of energy with photovoltaic panels to produce electricity and solar panels to produce hot water, also uses geothermal energy.

The works started on 5^th July 2009 and were concluded on 30^th September 2009; the opening took place on 3^rd October at 11.00 am at Poggio Picenze.  On the website www.trevisoxlaquila.org are showed the various stages of the yard that led to the completion of the project.

Notifier Italia also welcomed the initiative and participated in the project by providing the material for the installation of a fire detection system to protect the entire structure: from the smoke and heat detectors, alarm buttons, by the panels for the optical-acoustic alarm signals. The entire system is managed and monitored by the analogue control panel AM1000.
